paper boat

There's so much to share write paint draw because suddenly all of it is coming back, i wish i can do that soon (in dire need of a sabbatical)!

i wanted to paint Ouroboros quite sometime back when i discovered it personally because instantly I could connect to the meaning and symbology behind this cultural symbol. however circumstances were such that the painting got spoiled then.

nevertheless, after two years of living the symbol (the numen) academically and personally, i managed to muster up the courage to re-draw it with much more enhanced understanding of Self and Psyche!

"Kagazon ki kashtiyon ka kahin kinaara hota nahi, O maajhi re!
(paper boats don't have a river bank, O boatman!)

Music

Heartrending music is food for the troubled soul!

Sharing Hindi and Assamese rendition of a Bhupen Hazarika song. While the Hindi one makes me feel the pain, the Assamese one is quite romantic. Enjoy.

Aaj Jaane ki Zidd Na Karo...

An all time favourite ghazal- Aaj jaane ki zid na karo
can't get the damn tune out of my head! ;)
Written by poet and lyricist Fayyaz Hashmi, and sung by many singers over the years...sharing some of my favourite versions... Go get intoxicated! xD

Aaj jaane ki zidd na karo
Yu hi pehlu mein bethey raho
Haaye mar jaayenge
Hum to lutt jaayenge
Aisi baatein kiya na karo
Aaj jaane ki zidd na karo..

Tum hi socho zara
kyu na rokein tumhe
jaan jaati hai jab uth ke jaatey ho tum
tum ko apni qasam jaan-e-jaan
baat itni meri maan lo
Aaj jaane ki zidd na karo..

Waqt ki qaed mein zindagi hai magar
chand ghadiyaan yahi hain jo aazaad hain
inko kho kar kahin jaan-e-jaan
umr bhar na tarastey raho
Aaj jaane ki zidd na karo

Kitna masoom rangeen hai yeh sama
husn aur ishq ki aaj mein-raj hai
kal ki kis ko khabar jaan-e-jaan
rok lo aaj ki raat ko
Aaj jaane ki zidd na karo...

What Silence Said

Susheela Raman

Does the unknown bird enter and leave the cage ?

Paris café.
Our last rendez-vous
Rain swept, backwardscripted windows
Our shrunken heads reading signs and lips
One last dance, broken steps
Before your eclipse...

Was there thunder in your ears?
Mine were full of sand, not hearing
What your silence said
And if I turn around, your mouth open, no sound.
your eyes screaming, retreating into blackness...

A day too late, your news found me at home.
Mind bubbling up,
Angry water refusing a stone,
And then revenge, I felt life surge in my veins
A hunger you would never taste again...

Did you lose your faith in love?
Did you lose faith in human feeling?
Silence...
Did you lose your trust in truth?
Did your heart find no way to healing
Like I lost you?

You left your lovers close behind,
All twisted up in time, you crossed the line.
It's all we have this thin twine, then nothing...
Just the emptiness you carved,
Your spine a lonely blade,
In space...
To the end a dancer...
Beautiful face begins to fade,
Thank you for being my friend...
Beautiful face begins to fade...

When your dreams have ended...

An all time favourite song that sometimes echoes in my ears and gives me goosepimples! =)

Remember Me composed by James Horner
(performed by Josh Groban and Tanja Tzarovsk)

Remember, I will still be here
As long as you hold me, in your memory

Remember, when your dreams have ended
Time can be transcended
Just remember me

I am the one star that keeps burning, so brightly,
It is the last light, to fade into the rising sun

I'm with you
Whenever you tell, my story
For I am all I've done

Remember, I will still be here
As long as you hold me, in your memory
Remember me

I am the one voice in the cold wind, that whispers
And if you listen, you'll hear me call across the sky

As long as I still can reach out, and touch you
Then I will never die

Remember, I'll never leave you
If you will only
Remember me

Remember me...

Remember, I will still be here
As long as you hold me
In your memory

Remember, when your dreams have ended
Time can be transcended
I live forever
Remember me

Remember me
Remember... me...

PS: a strong urge to explore the character of  Achilles... =)

Untitled

16"X 20"Acrylic on canvas
inspiration: staring too close at the flame of a lighter

'When my synapses pause in my quest for applause
When my ego lets go of my end of the bone
To focus instead on the love that is precious to me
Then I shall be free
I shall be free..

I'll feel the heat of a flickering flame'
The inside of a flame...
The Blue flame...
The Flame.

Not that i had the lyrics in mind when i painted this one.. but i do..when i'm posting to share it.

Anyway , need suggestions for a suitable Title.. pls help! =)

book begins...

Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it

Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins . . .

A thousand desires such as these

Just felt like sharing a piece of beautiful poetry... a combination of song Hazaron Khwaishein aisi (part2) and the original ghazal by Ghalib

A thousand desires such as these
A thousand moments to set this night on fire
Reach out and you can touch them
You can touch them with your silences
You can reach them with your lust
Rivers mountains rain
Rain against a torrid hill’s cape
A thousand
A thousand desires such as these

(Thousands of desires, each worth dying for...
many of them I have realized...yet I yearn for more...)

I loved rain as a child
As a lost young man
Empty landscapes
Bleached by a tired sun
And then
And then suddenly it came
Like a dark unknown woman
Her eyes scorched my silences
Her body wrapped itself around me
Like a summer without end

(We have heard about the dismissal of Adam from Heaven,
With a more humiliation, I am leaving the street on which you live...

another metaphorical meaning: of the unclean birth of man from the womb one has heard
But you must see my rebirth when i passed shamelessly by your door... )

Pause me, hold me, reach me,
Where no man has gone
Crossing the seven seas
With the wings of fire
I fly towards nowhere
And you
Rivers mountains rain
Rain against a scorched landscape of pain

(When in love, there is little difference between life and death
we live by looking at the infidel who we are willing to die for)

A thousand desires such as these
A thousand moments to set this night on fire
Reach out and you can touch them
You can touch them with your silences
You can reach them with your lust
Rivers mountains rain
Rain against a torrid hill’s cape
A thousand
A thousand desires such as these...

the complete ghazal:
(so don’t cry , my love, you didn’t cause this pain
It was my fault that I fell so intensly in love with you.)

(Oh tyrant, your true personality will be known to all
if the curls of my hair slip through my turban!)

(for a long while, I wanted no more than that I get to write the poetic letters
your many admires make me write to you,
i went each day, like to work , with a pen behind my ear)

(and I was acquainted with such intoxication during this period of knowing you,
that the world , after ,  appeared  passionless and dry.)

(From whom I expected justice/praise for my weakness
turned out to be more injured with the same cruel sword)

( Put some pressure on your heart to remove that cruel arrow,
for if the arrow comes out, so will your heart...and your life)

(For god's sake, don't lift the cover off any secrets you tyrant
the infidel might turn out to be my lover!)

(The preacher and the bar's entrance are way apart
yet I saw him entering the bar as I was leaving!)
